Centre reconsiders the everyday language and gestures used when people encounter one another. Through a frustrated striving for complete and ideal introductions the piece explores clichés around “good” first impressions.
As many of the performers are refugees, the show addresses the stereotypes, biases and tensions that mar daily social interactions of many marginalised individuals. Centre, “a renunciation of xenophobia in the humorous yet critical performance” (Sakhi Gcina) was an important opportunity to put focus on an often overlooked place in the city.
