THE SECURITY HUT (2014)

The current geographical position of the Little Theatre means that those people deemed “undesirable” by the urban managers of the Central Business District are excluded from it. The position of the theatre inside the gated campus of the University of Cape Town might exclude those who do not feel authorised, are not connected socially, or are not invited into the enclave.

Thinking about exclusion and inclusion Rosa decided to interview friend, George Musumb who worked as a security officer. Sensing that the frames of urban space often come to feel more real than the body that makes the frame possible, The Security Hut seeks remind the audience that places are thrown-together by actors and shaped by our fears and desires.

30 minute site-responsive performance made with support from the University of Cape Town.
